Roots

by Anton Zuiker on June 22, 2004

My mother, Cheryl Zuiker, was inspired by Theo’s messages to connect with more of her relatives, so she called her cousin Penny Petrone in Canada.

Penny is the author of Embracing Serafina and Breaking the Mould. Both are memoirs of her Italian upbringing and heritage, and the Sisco clan is part of that story. I’ll ask my mom to contribute more about what she learned …

[EDIT] The family tree, btw, is here. It’s in need of formatting and design improvements, but the genealogy is available. And, I’m still planning on collaborating with Susan Zuiker to merge her genealogy information into our family tree database.

Team Netherlands

by Anton Zuiker on June 15, 2004

Theo Zuiker recently sent me a disc of pictures of the Netherlands Zuikers. See below; click on the image names to see the other pictures appear. Theo also directed me to the Grimmon-Zuiker website for more pictures of the Zuikers living in Germany.

At the moment, Theo and Alda are in Germany visiting their daughter Nicole, who is hosting a soccer-watching party: in a few hours, the match-up of Germany-Holland starts, part of the European Championship. Go orange!

Here are excerpts from Theo’s messages to me:

My house in Oisterwijk is relative luxe for Holland. I have a garden from 1200 square meters. One squar meter in hour little town, about 20.000 inhabitans cost about 700.-. So I can say I am a rich man…....., or my children later. We ware a month ago in Egypt to visit one of my adopt-daughters, who lives in Cairo. It was a nice travel, but very hot in Egypt and that is not so well. I told you that I start with English course, in the beguining of last year. You can see nou, that I make only a few progress. My age is 74 years old, and than it is not easy to lear by heart. I hope you can understand my letter.

Names and places

Here’s a recent message from Uncle John:

Got together with the Zuiker’s last night and it was just terrific. I finally got a lot of the family tree sorted out. I pulled out one of my old photos of three little kids out at the Harrision farm. The picture was probably at least 60 years old. I asked Simon Zuiker who the three kids in the photo were and he said that the boy was him. Turned out that it was a picutre of him and two of his sisters. Uncle Pete owned the farm where Dad and Uncle Louey used to always go and visit. Simon who also was called Sam was one of the kids who lived on the farm at that time. He said that he remembered fats will real and that he and louey were real characters. We looked at picutres of the great parents and of our grandparents and all of the relatives and talked about con zuiker and a lot of the Shoeneys and Harrison Zuikers. I had a map that actually showed the old farm. Was just a great time talking about Tomahawk and the family. He was such an easy going person. Felt like I had known him for years. The kind of guy you want to go to the local bar and have a beer with. There are a lot of Zuikers on that side that we need to add to the Zuiker chronicle list. They really enjoy the Zuiker chronilce’s. later.
