Clarice (Martcie) Zuiker 1911-2008

Clarice Zuiker has passed from this world. She was a special woman and a humble matriarch.

Listen to her story (an interview conducted by her grandson, Jeff Nolan).

Post your tributes to Grandma Zuiker in the comments. Or call 919.724.4220 to speak your tribute.

Milestones

Happy birthday to my mother, Cheryl Zuiker, celebrating today.

And congratulations to my brother Matthew, who successfully completed the police academy in Phoenix and is now an official badge carrier of a major metro police department there.

#738 this year

My father is running the Honolulu Marathon again. He’s #738 this year, and he’ll be taking the course slower than the last few years. That noble Race for a Common Sense Congress diverted him from his marathon training, I suspect.

Grandma's oral history

Over at my podcast page, I’ve posted the audio from Jeff’s oral history session with Grandma. When Jeff’s edited his video recording from that session, we’ll get it onto the site for all to see.

Reunion wrap-up

The reunion list is busy with family members posting their thoughts about the awesome week we had at Oglebay. Kate Nolan offered her list of awards for the MVPs of the reunion:

And Aunt Sue added this:

TJ and Jeff are working on a master collection of photos from the week. I’ve begun posting some of mine here. Here’s the first image I snapped:

Time to gather

The big Zuiker family reunion is upon us. This weekend, more than 60 uncles, aunts, cousins, brothers and family friends will gather at Oglebay Resort in Wheeling, West Virginia. We’ll sing, eat, talk (though politics is strictly off the list, courtesy of the enflamed but differing passions fueled by George “I’m a uniter, not a divider” Bush), walk and play (tennis, disc golf, poker). The last time we gathered for a reunion was the 1984 jamboree in Tomahawk, Wisconsin on the family’s Ravens Roost campsite.
